Lottery Hongkong Tickets Smuggled Into China

Lottery Hongkong

Lottery Hongkong is a lottery game administered by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. The goal of the game is to select six numbers from a pool of 49, and if you pick all six winning numbers, you win the jackpot prize. The odds of getting all six numbers correct are one in 13,983,816.

Ticket sales for the game have been growing, and the top prize has climbed to more than $20 million. The top prize isn’t taxable in Hong Kong, but players should check regulations in their home countries. The XOTTO website has information on how to play and how to get tickets.

Smuggling Hong Kong Lottery Tickets

On September 21, officials intercepted a river vessel carrying around 16,000 Mark Six tickets that were intended to be smuggled into Macau and mainland China. The smugglers were likely trying to take advantage of the higher top prizes for the lottery, which have recently reached HK$24 million.

The smugglers handed over the tickets to customs officers, who verified them for the HKJC and found that most were winners. In addition to the thrice-weekly regular draws, the HKJC holds special Mark Six “Snowball Draws” that have bigger jackpots than the regular drawings.

Travelers interested in visiting Hong Kong can enter the flight-ticket lottery starting March 1. The giveaway will open to people living in Southeast Asia on March 1, then to residents of mainland China on April 1, and finally to everyone else in May. Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, and HK Express are participating in the promotion, which will give away 80,000 free flights to travelers from abroad.
